Let me forego that ache
that infests the loving heart
that sweet smell of asters
drenched in dew.

Let me forsake those first lips tremulous
in splendour of that purloined kiss
that soft caress of fingers in the night
wings of breath upon my ear.

Let me forget the pensive moments
scribbling poetry
the throng of memory and images
that dance with every thought.

Let me wander, set me free
If ever comes that waning time
When the ache, the heart,
The poetic kiss of the muse
Leaves me drained and empty late at night.
