Neither here nor there
neither inside nor outside
images move across the mind –
let them
here where time moves
from present to past.
Here in the middle of things
a no-thingness
in this moment into which
all moments collect.
These images rise up
from no bottom
no foundation
to which we can pin them back.
To say they are empty
is to see them again
artifacts of mammalian life
no less than the urge for status
or the bloodrush in the ears
this late winter night.
