Model for Rock

Lauren Sassella is a young writer who resides in Australia. She has recently had several of her poems published in various anthologies across America and has also had an essay published at Apollo's.

Girl with glasses

In the spotlight,
with her hair wild and her arms inked,
she is the model for rock.
The epitome of cool.

At her feet, her minion's eyes blaze
with veneration and awe.
She has the punk-rock indifference
of a back-lit idol at play.

In her eyes
I found the energy of fate:
Black pools of confidence
shooting down the crowd.

Despotic in the spotlight,
her lungs loud and her heart draining out,
she is the existence I want.
The epitome of arrival.
